REI, Clark Fork Coalition offer river camping workshop

The Clark Fork Coalition and REI are teaming up to host an hour-long workshop this month for people interested in learning the ins and outs of overnight river camping.

An REI paddling instructor will cover gear, river safety and what to bring and leave behind for a day trip or over night river excursion.

The workshop will be geared towards both new and seasoned river users looking to learn how to take their day trips to the next level. Participants will learn what to bring and how to pack their watercraft for a paddle camping adventure.

The instructor will also go over water safety and give suggestions on where to get started.

The June 14 event is part of the Coalition’s monthly “Water Walks and Talks” learning series, which keeps citizens informed about hot topics and recent developments in the Clark Fork River watershed.

The workshop is free, open to the public and will be outdoors on the front lawn of the Boone and Crockett building, located at 250 Station Drive. Participants will meet at the grizzly bear statue along the bike path and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets.

The event takes place from 5:15 to 6:15.
