Delta flight diverts to Missoula after reporting engine problem

(KPAX) An emergency on board an early Monday morning flight from Kalispell caused a plane to be diverted to Missoula.

Delta flight 2544 departed from Glacier Park International Airport at 5:47 a.m. on Monday en-route to Salt Lake City but was diverted to Missoula International Airport for an emergency landing.

A Delta representative said an engine issue forced the jet with 123 passengers on board to be diverted to Missoula. No injuries were reported and the plane landed and taxied to the gate.

"A diversion like this is standard protocol when there is an issue with an engine out of an abundance of caution," Drake Castaneda with Delta Airlines said in a statement.

Missoula International Airport officials also confirmed with MTN News that a flight made an emergency landing shortly after 6:30 a.m.

Another plane is being sent to Missoula so that the passengers can continue their trip to Salt Lake City.

The airline released the following statement to MTN News:

“Delta apologizes to customers on flight 2544 from Kalispell to Salt Lake City diverted to Missoula out of an abundance of caution due to an engine issue. While the aircraft is examined by maintenance technicians, an alternate aircraft is being sent to Kalispell to more quickly get customers to Salt Lake City.”
