Mountain Line hires new communications and outreach specialist

A University of Montana graduate and former manager of nonprofit accounts for a local marketing agency has been hired as the communications and outreach specialist for Mountain Line.

The Missoula Urban Transportation District announced on Wednesday that it hired Shanti Johnson for the position. She replaces Bill Pfeiffer, who took a job with the Montana chapter of Trout Unlimited late last year.

“I'm looking forward to being in a position where I can apply my skills in communication, education and management to something I’m truly passionate about – building a more sustainable community for everyone,” Johnson said. “No matter if you’re a daily rider or someone who just wants to breathe cleaner air, sustainable transportation benefits us all.”

Before joining Mountain Line, Johnson worked for PartnersCreative where she managed several nonprofit and government accounts. She also logged time at the University of Montana’s Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center, where she helped coordinate programs funded by the U.S. State Department.

“Shanti brings with her the experience and skills necessary to succeed and a true passion for our mission,” said Corey Aldridge, Mountain Line general manger.

“It’s apparent she’s invested in the health and longevity of our region and I know she’s going to continue to find even more ways Mountain Line can connect with and support our community.”

Johnson earned her masters degree in environmental science and natural resource journalism from UM. In the past, she has worked for a rural electric cooperative on green power initiatives and currently sits on the board of Freedom Gardens.

She began in her new position last week.
