The ALPS Corp. in Missoula has added cybersecurity expert and MIT graduate Sherri Davidoff to its board of directors - a move intended to bolster its own internal defenses from outside attack.

Davidoff, who currently serves as CEO of LMG Security in Missoula, has authored several books on cybersecurity and has been described by The New York Times as a “security badass.”

Her role on the ALPS Corp. Board of Directors began in May.

“ALPS has been working for several years to instill cybersecurity awareness and diligence within the company as well as being on the forefront of offering a cyber liability insurance policy to our LPL policyholders,” said ALPS President and CEO David Bell. “Incidentally, Sherri played an integral role in helping us craft that policy.”

Thirty years after being established, the ALPS Corp. has grown to become one of the largest insurers of lawyer’s malpractice in the country. With more than 70 employees, the firm conducts business in 47 states, operating from its headquarters in downtown Missoula.

Davidoff has conducted cybersecurity training for many organizations, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the American Bar Association. She also is a faculty member at the Pacific Coast Banking School and an instructor for Black Hat, where she teaches her “Data Breaches” course.

Davidoff also co-authored Network Forensics: Tracking Hackers Through Cyberspace. Published in 2012, the book serves as a noted security text in the private sector, as well as a college textbook for many cybersecurity courses.

Sherri is a GIAC-certified forensic examiner and penetration tester and holds her degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from MIT. She has also been featured as the protagonist in the book, Breaking and Entering: The Extraordinary Story of a Hacker Called “Alien.”

“Sherri brings with her the caliber of experience and tech know-how from every side of the cybersecurity realm,” said Bell.
