American Airlines suspends service to 15 small-market cities; Missoula not on the list

American Airlines this week announced plans to adjust its October route schedule by suspending service to 15 small market cities. Missoula or Bozeman are not on the list.

The carrier, which provides nonstop service from Missoula to Dallas/Fort Worth, said adjusting its flight schedule was the result of low demand resulting from the pandemic.

The changes also come as the air service requirements included in the CARES Act expire. The suspensions take effect on Oct. 7 and will expire on Nov. 3.

The airline will continue to re-assess its plans, as a proposed extension of the Payroll Support Program remains under deliberation. The carrier's October schedule will be released Aug. 29, and American anticipates releasing its updated November schedule by late-September.

The Associated Press reported earlier this week that air travel is down more than 85% between 2019 and 2020.
