American Airlines is widening its service from Missoula with nonstop service to Los Angeles, Missoula International Airport said Tuesday.

The seasonal flight will begin on June 3 and run through the middle of August.

"This new flight is an excellent opportunity for travelers to access Los Angeles, in addition to easy access for southern Californians to witness the beauty of Montana,” said Cris Jensen, Missoula's airport director.

Tuesday's announcement is the latest in a flurry of new flights coming to Missoula this year, including Allegiant Airlines to Portland, Oregon, and Orange County, California, which began last week.

Alaska Airlines service to San Diego will also begin next month. The carrier is also launching service to San Jose and San Francisco, along with Los Angeles and Portland.

American Airlines now provides service from Missoula to three destinations, including Dallas, Chicago and now Los Angeles.

“We're thankful for the airline's commitment to our community and appreciate the investment they have made to serve the transportation needs of our region," Jensen said.

The ever-changing landscape of air service out of Missoula currently includes six airlines. Together, they'll offer nonstop flights to 16 destinations this summer.
