Missoula Aging Services names new CEO – first change in 33 years

Missoula Aging Services will ease into the new year with a new CEO, marking the first transition at the top of the organization in more than three decades.

Lisa Sheppard most recently ran the Flathead County Agency on Aging in Kalispell and replaces Susan Kohler, who announced her retirement earlier this year. Sheppard begins in March.

“I’m excited to work together with the board, the staff and the community to build on the organization’s considerable achievements and move boldly toward creating a more inclusive, age-friendly future,” Sheppard said in a statement.

Sheppard headed the Kalispell organization for roughly nine years and previously served as the director of operations for EveryChild, an Austin-based nonprofit. She earned her master's in social work from the University of Texas.

Sheppard's appointment marks the first time in 33 years that Missoula Aging Services will operate under a new CEO. Kohler has headed the organization since the 1980s and helped it evolve to a meet the demands of a growing demographic in Missoula.

Kohler praised Sheppard's appointment.

“I'm confident in her abilities to not only carry out the duties necessary as CEO, but to make sure we remain innovators in the industry,” Kohler said. “I have known and worked with Lisa for years, and I know her vision and dedication will align seamlessly with the agencies.”

Missoula Aging Services was established in 1982 and has grown to serve thousands of older adults.

“Missoula Aging Services has long set the standard for providing high-quality, innovative services to older adults so they can live full lives and age well with dignity,” Sheppard said. “I can’t wait to get to know and serve the people of Missoula and Ravalli counties."
