Missoula police officers were involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect after responding to a domestic violence call at a home near Rose Park on Sunday morning.

In a news release, Sgt. Travis Welsh said officers responded to the report of a "disturbance with a firearm" at a home in the 600 block of Blaine Street at about 8:30 a.m.

While they were en route to the home, another report came that a shot had been fired inside the home.

After arriving, officers did encounter a person with a gun and shots were fired, Welsh reported. No officers were injured, but a suspect was dead at the scene.

The Montana Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation is now handling the death investigation because Missoula police officers were involved in the shooting.

Welsh released no additional information early Sunday afternoon.
