Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) is seeking applicants through November 1, 2016, to fill 10 to15 volunteer positions on the new Bitterroot River Recreation Advisory Committee (BRRAC).

The BRRAC is tasked with developing a report of recommendations for managing river recreation on the Upper Bitterroot River and West Fork of the Bitterroot.

Specifically, the committee will:

  • Assess river recreation information and existing conditions;
  • Identify desirable or acceptable recreation conditions;
  • Develop a list of management actions (less restrictive to most restrictive);
  • Identify triggers that would warrant implementation of management actions.

FWP will use the BRRAC report, other public review and input, environmental analysis, and survey information to prepare a draft recreation management plan for the Upper Bitterroot and West Fork.

“The citizen advisory committee will play a crucial role in this process,” says Oschell. “We look forward to working with a diverse set of stakeholders representing the full range of interests on the Upper Bitterroot River.”

FWP encourages anyone with an interest in river recreation and management of the Bitterroot to apply.  Member selections will be made to create a diverse group of advisors. Members will serve in a voluntary capacity, and committee meetings will be held in Missoula at the FWP Region 2 office, beginning later this fall.

The FWP statewide river recreation rules apply to the process of developing plans or rules for river recreation.

To apply and for more information, download an application online or contact FWP Region 2 River Recreation Manager Christine Oschell at 406-542-5562 or coschell@mt.gov.  Completed applications must be received by Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016.
