(KPAX) School levies and bond requests will be decided by Missoula voters on Tuesday.

Missoula County Public School Trustees have two Operations Levies on the ballot. The elementary operation levy request is $200,519 while the high school operation levy request is $118,986.

Operation levies help schools fund operational expenditures and pay for utilities, supplies, and curriculum and teaching materials.

Target Range School is hoping that its community approves of an $8.27 million bond that would improve school safety and bring new educational opportunities to its students.

Safety improvements would create new walkways, a new drop off space and a new single, secure entrance.

Leaders say the money would also construct a new band, orchestra and choir classrooms, new multipurpose cafeteria space and expand the kitchen among other upgrades.

The Lolo School District is requesting $128,265 general fund levy for the purpose of supporting instructional programs.

If approved, Lolo School’s levy would increase by 15.89 mills with district officials saying the money would allow for smaller class sizes and greater individualized instruction for students.

The school notes that while they are serving 30 more students than five years ago the 2019-2020 revenue is projected to be approximately $150,000 less than five years ago.

Here is some important information for Tuesday’s all-mail election.

Since it’s an all-mail election, polling places are not open in Missoula County, but there are a few drop-off locations.

Ballots may be dropped off at the Western Montana Fairgrounds. Drive-thru service is available at the main entrance, off of South Avenue.

Other drop-off locations:

  • Target Range Elementary School
  • Hellgate Elementary School
  • Lolo Elementary School
  • Clinton Elementary School
  • Potomac-Greenough Community Center

The law changed last fall as a result of the voter-approved LR 129.  Under the new law, voters who return more than one ballot must complete a “Ballot Collector Information” form.

  • The form was included with voters’ ballots and it’s available online or at drop-off locations.
  • Voters may drop off up to six ballots (in addition to their own) and they must provide their information and signature.
  • They must also note the name and contact information for the voter and their relationship (family, household, acquaintance or caregiver) to the voter.

Missoula Election officials encourage voters to complete the new form before they come to drop off ballots in order to minimize wait times.

New registrants or voters with changes to their registration may do same-day registration and voting at the Fairgrounds in Building 15.

Ballots are due by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.
