Missoula City Council trends toward socialist candidates in early returns

With several vacant seats at stake on City Council, voters in Missoula opted for consistency, resisting several conservative candidates while swinging toward two new candidates with socialist leanings.

According to unofficial early returns, incumbents Jordan Hess and Stacie Anderson both held their seats against rivals, earning 60% of the vote and 59% respectively in early returns.

The four vacant seats had all conservative candidates running behind while socialist candidates Kristen Jordan and Daniel Carlino held early leads.

Jordan had secured 71% of the vote in early returns while Carlino held a mere 4-vote lead over Dori Gilels, who had widespread support ranging from the Missoula County commissioners and others with eye on local politics.
