(KPAX) Montana Fish, Wildlife And Parks (FWP) says three orphaned bear cubs will be taken by a facility in Arizona.

The cubs were orphaned last month after their mother was injured in a surprise encounter with a hiker near Dupuyer, along the Rocky Mountain Front.

FWP had to euthanize the sow.

The cubs were captured and taken to Montana WILD in Helena for a little over six weeks, while FWP and the US Fish and Wildlife Service could search for a facility to care for them.

Wildlife managers ultimately settled on Bearizona Wildlife Park, in Williams, Arizona.

The park covers more than 150 acres and is accredited by the Zoological Association of America.

Fewer than 10% (240) of the approximately 2,800 animal exhibitors licensed by the USDA are AZA accredited. Only 60 zoos are ZAA accredited.

Bearizona is home to 39 black bears and many other species of North American wildlife.

There will be an FWP Live Facebook Event on the cubs on Thursday, May 28 at 11:00 a.m.
