(KPAX) SUPERIOR — The Mineral County commissioners office has confirmed that Sheriff Mike Boone has submitted a letter of resignation.
Commission chairman Roman Zylawy said Sheriff Boone turned in the letter on Tuesday evening. Zylawy said he has not had a chance to read the letter yet, and would not speculate as to the reasoning.
Boone took the position of Sheriff in 2018 and was committed to serve a four-year term ending in 2022, according to the Commissioner’s office.
Zylawy said that county commissioners will have an administrative meeting with Boone and the Human Resources department on Thursday. He expects to go over the letter and discuss logistics.
This comes after Undersheriff Steve Trollope retired last week, after 32 years in law enforcement, according to Zylawy.
Zylawy also said there has been some confusion in the community surrounding the resignation, and clarified that Boone will serve as Sheriff until his last day of work on Aug. 1.
