A Great Falls contractor has been selected by the Department of Administration to build the new Montana Heritage Center in Helena, the agency said on Thursday.

Commerce Director John Lewis said Sletten Construction was chosen by the selection committee from a field of six applicants. The selection was made based on scoring criteria.

“We are now one step closer to completion,” Lewis said. “This facility will be strategically located half way between Glacier Park and Yellowstone National Park and has been 15 years in the making.”

Lewis said the design remains a work in progress and is expected to last through the spring 2021 as plans are finalized. The contractor will join the Building Committee and other project team members in reporting to Commerce throughout the process.

Several substantial project elements involving preparation of the site for major construction activities, relocation of utilities and easier access to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks are expected to be completed this fall.

“We are pleased to be putting Montanans to work as we move this exciting project forward during otherwise challenging times,” said Lewis.
