In a short press release, Southgate Mall on Wednesday said it has canceled its annual Fourth of July celebration.

The mall's general manager Tim Winger didn't give a reason as to why the event was canceled and mall officials weren't immediately available for comment. Winger said the mall would work with its sponsors on next year.

“We look forward to working with them in the future as we work toward ensuring the community celebration in the years to come,” Winger said in a statement. “Our plan will be to revisit the events of the past with the Missoula City Band, food trucks and family activities followed by the exhilarating fireworks display that brought the Missoula community together.”

The mall thanked its sponsors including First Interstate Bank, Republic Services, Mountain Broadcasting and NBC Montana for "their support in years past."
