Over the course of history, our most effective leaders have not been forged for their moment in time but rather summoned to leadership when their time was called. With the COVID-19 pandemic, Whitney Williams is being summoned to lead Montana.
Her experience dealing with pandemics on a global scale is unmatched in the Governor’s race. What’s more, she brings an international network that will prove vital to Montana when we begin to recover from this experience.
I can speak firsthand to that network and Whitney’s ability to just get stuff done. Before Whitney ever declared for Governor, I met with her to discuss ways that we could locally address some of the issues plaguing our nation.
Over the course of an hour, I witnessed someone with unbounded and unbridled enthusiasm. She didn’t have all the answers, but she was connected through her experience to the top experts in virtually every field. For every question, there was a leading authority in the world with the answer, and Whitney had their cell phone number.
As Governor, Whitney’s job won’t be to have every answer. Her job will be to connect the experts and devise appropriate policy based on those recommendations. Sometimes, she’ll need to push folks to get those recommendations implemented. In one way or another, she’s been doing it her whole life.
I left our meeting with more hope than I have had in a very long time. When Whitney announced for Governor, I felt an excitement for our state that has laid dormant long enough that it felt strange. Whitney brings a completely different perspective to government and it is one that we will need as we emerge from COVID-19.
I hope that you will join me in supporting Whitney Williams for Governor in the upcoming Democratic Primary.
