Glacier National Park on Wednesday canceled all backcountry camping advance reservations for the 2020 season.

Drive-in, front-country campsite reservations remain unchanged.

Park officials said the cancellations come in response to the latest guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and in consultation with state and local public health agencies.

Glacier Park anticipates limits on staffing and operations throughout the summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That creates uncertainty about the availability of trails and backcountry campgrounds. Thus, the cancellations.

The park is currently closed as part of the nation's response to the pandemic. Glacier has not yet released a plan for the park's opening, other than to say it will come in phases. Park crews are, however, at work clearing snow from Going-to-the-Sun Road, as is normal this time of year.
