The Missoula City-County Health Department on Friday said a second county resident has died of complications related to COVID-19.

The death marks the second since the pandemic set in back in March and brings to 81 the number of people who have died from the virus in Montana.

The health department said the individual was “middle-aged or older” and offered no other details.

“The health department and local government leadership send our deepest condolences to their family, friends and loved ones at this terrible time,” the health department said in a statement. “We wish to respect the family’s privacy and cannot tell the family how incredibly sorry we are for their loss.”

Missoula County has reported 357 cases, including 122 active cases, according to the Montana Department of Health and Human Services.

Statewide, Montana has reported more than 5,500 cases and 1,449 active cases. The state has 86 current hospitalizations.
