A reward is being offered for information leading to the person who shot the foot off a 2-year-old female grizzly bear on or near Snowbowl Road, north of Missoula on or before April 11.

The high-impact injury led to sepsis and severe dehydration. On May 29, the bear was put down by Fish, Wildlife and Parks near Wisherd Ridge along the Blackfoot River because she was suffering, emaciated and expected to live only a week longer.

Footloose Montana and other organizations said they are offering a reward of thousands of dollars to find the poacher who caused the death of the young grizzly, an endangered species that was likely a member of the grizzly bear family that Missoula had come to cherish.
