Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte announced Tuesday his administration will propose a 4.7% income tax rate, which drew immediate criticisms from Democrats.

Washington voters will get their chance in November to embrace or reject the state’s new income tax on households with earnings greater than a million dollars a year.

Any bill that affects state revenue needs to pass through either the House or Senate by the end of the day Saturday.

The Montana Senate has given initial approval to a bill that would reduce state income taxes by more than $200 million a year.
