Missoula County this month launched a dispute with the state agency, saying that it's using local jails to house its own inmates and not funding the full cost of doing so.

Options include building more capacity at the Montana State Prison, building a new women’s prison, and possibly putting more inmates at contracted prisons like the Saguaro Correction Center in Arizona.
