Over the next four decades, Utah’s population is on track to rise from about 3.6 million residents today to more than 5.6 million — an increase of 2 million people, or roughly the size of Idaho’s current population.

Bozeman added the second most residents, 788, followed by Billings (686), Missoula (557) and Helena (360). Of the state’s most populous cities, Great Falls, Havre and Sidney all lost residents.

The growth in the immigrant population ranged from 19% in Alaska to 36% in Montana.

As of July 2024, the federal agency estimates that Montana has a population of 1,137,223, an increase 5,931 from July of 2023.

People are still moving into Washington faster than they’re moving out, driving up the state’s population. But growth is down slightly from previous years.

In 2022, Idaho’s population grew by 1.8%, making it the state with the second-highest growth rate behind Florida. But since the height of the pandemic, that growth has slowed down for many Idaho counties.
