quagga mussels

Idaho state officials say they are continuing to push for full eradication of quagga mussels after again detecting the invasive species in the Snake River near Twin Falls earlier this month.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife staff on Saturday found quagga mussels on a motorboat coming from Lake Havasu, Arizona, during a boat inspection in Ashland.

State officials have not found any viable quagga mussels since the state administered the most recent copper-based treatment in the Snake River near Twin Falls this fall.

As crews spread a copper chemical on the Snake River, scientists monitor water samples in labs.

Any unplanned expenses could put additional pressure on the state budget being hampered by revenue shortfalls.
