The city and a team of state and local partners will turn their focus to a stretch of the Clark Fork River in downtown Missoula in a bid to protect infrastructure, restore habitat and add a new recreational feature.

Missoula County on Tuesday approved $50,000 in funding to aid a number of rural projects – including a community garden and skate park – recommended by the Parks and trails Advisory Board.

After years of planning, construction of a new parking lot to serve the crowded Sha-Ron river access site east of Missoula will begin this spring.

The new bill would protect guides or outfitters from liability for things they cannot control — like rocks in a river, a falling tree or blowing wind — while keeping them on the hook for what they can.

LOGE Camps acquired the former Mountain Valley Inn at 420 W. Broadway and plans to add it to their selection of lodging focused on outdoor adventure.

As a new season of recreation nears with its soccer leagues and softball, swimming pools and youth programs, the City of Missoula will consider an updated fee schedule to fund such facilities.

While enthusiasm is running high around the potential acquisition of Marshall Mountain and the array of recreational programs it could support, members of the City Council are eager to see the numbers.
