Pearl Jam added Missoula to its exclusive summer concert series as part of its abbreviated “Home Shows” tour, the University of Montana announced on Wednesday.

The concert, set for Aug. 13 in Washington-Grizzly Stadium, marks 28 years of the band's live performances and the seventh time it has played at UM.

“We found out fairly recently,” Jes Partain, program coordinator for the Adams Center Box Office, said Wednesday. “They called us and it's kind of big because this is their 28th anniversary, and it's very exclusive.”

The band began performing live 28 years ago and has since released 10 studio albums. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year and remains commercially successful, having sold more than 85 million albums.

The band's bass player, Jeff Ament, is from Montana and attended college at UM. The tour also includes Seattle, Chicago and Boston.

“We have a connection with a member of Pearl Jam,” said Partain. “They're doing six shows, and we're one of them.”

Pearl Jam first played the University Theatre in 1993 and returned for a show in the fieldhouse in 1995. It also kicked off its North American tour in Washington-Grizzly Stadium in 1998, marking the largest musical event in Montana history at the time, with 21,900 tickets sold.

The group returned to play the Adams Center in May and August of 2005, including a fundraiser for Sen. Jon Tester's campaign.

While Partain expects tickets to sell out, details surrounding sales haven't been released.

“It's unclear at the moment,” she said. “We're still in the process of setting that up, as well as ticket prices. Ticketing is not through us. It's going to be through Ticketmaster."
