The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a bill Thursday, introduced by Rep. Greg Gianforte, to rename the main Missoula post office at 1100 West Kent, in Missoula, in honor of Jeanette Rankin.

After two lakeside landowners objected, the Missoula County commissioners on Wednesday postponed a request to sign a letter supporting removal of a dam on Elbow Lake in the Swan Valley until they learn more about the project and its effects.

It’s been more than 100 years since log drivers last used the Blackfoot River to float pine, spruce and larch down to the Bonner mill, east of Missoula. But some of those logs are still waiting to be used.

The Missoula Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday morning to approve a resolution encouraging the city of Missoula to adopt the proposed 2019 Downtown Master Plan. 

Missoula County has applied for a $25,000 grant from the Montana Healthcare Foundation for a study that could eventually help provide health insurance to county residents who have no coverage. 

The Missoula County commissioners are urging senators Jon Tester and Steve Daines to support America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019, which would help fund wildlife crossings in areas like western Montana.

Missoula County commissioners and Sheriff T.J. McDermott will install rooftop solar panels at the detention center as part of the county's goal to transfer away from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. “This is an exciting opportunity,” said McDermott said at a meeting earlier this week. “We’ve been talking about this for a long time.”

The Missoula Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday approved, for the fourth year in a row, a special permit allowing use of the historic Lalonde Ranch for the annual Rolling Thunder Cyclocross Race, set for Nov. 2.

The Missoula County commissioners on Tuesday signed a letter to Sen. Jon Tester expressing their support for the Blackfoot Clearwater Stewardship Act, introduced by Tester in 2017 and reintroduced in 2019. 

The Missoula Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve contracts with the Salvation Army, providing up to $62,000 for a winter shelter rental assistance program and another $19,000 for an emergency transportation program.
