In Wyola, a little school makes big plans
All there is in Wyola these days, besides a scattering of houses or the deteriorating remains of houses, is the post office and the school. The only public bathroom in town is inside the school.

Prairie Lights: A timeless visit to Alberton’s grand bookstore
I hadn’t been there long when I found a book I wanted: “Life and Letters of Lord Macaulay,” by his nephew, George Otto Trevelyan. There was no copyright, but on the front flyleaf there was a gift inscription in spidery ink, dated 1884. I still have the book, and the price, $4.95, is still there in pencil on the page before the title page.

Before her mother’s death in 1995, Angelica Osborne knew only a few things about her mother’s life in World War II-era Germany, before she married an American soldier and came to the United States.

Rare Ghost Dance artifacts on display at Yellowstone County Museum
A new exhibit at the Yellowstone County Museum brings together an amazing collection of artifacts from the Native American Ghost Dance movement of the 1890s. The collection includes Ghost Dance shirts, dresses, drums, shields, pipes, a mink rattle, prayer staff and bags. It is on long-term loan to the museum from Billings native Larry Williams, who will talk about the collection once an hour during Saturday's grand opening.

Prairie Lights: Signs of change spark nostalgia for Missoula’s Broadway Market
Nothing like a couple of days in Missoula to make me wish for a return to the days when America was not so great.
Let me explain.
I lived here off and on for seven years back in the ’70s, and what with Mrs. Kemmick being a native of this town, we get back here four or five times a year. Desp...

Red Lodge Songwriters Festival enters 2nd year with expanded lineup
Mike Booth and Cory Johnson started the Red Lodge Songwriters Festival last year, hoping it would become an annual event that got bigger every year. It looks like they’re on the right track. The second annual festival starts next Thursday, June 22, and this year will feature two members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, with 12 shows at six Red Lodge venues scheduled during the three-day event.

They reached their bivouac late in the afternoon. On the way, they saw a single-engine plane that made some passes overhead. They waved to it when they could and the plane, after dipping a wing, flew back over the mountains.

Prairie Lights: Should Montana just scrap judicial elections?
Another District Court judge is resigning before the end of his elected term, paving the way for the appointment of a successor. Is it time to simply do away with the near-fiction of judicial elections in Montana?
