This Thursday, on the 100th anniversary of U.S. entry into World War I, the Montana Historical Society will present “What Can We Learn from World War I?” at 6:30 p.m. at MHS. Historian Martha Kohl, who headed a yearlong effort to create a new website—“Montana and the Great War”—and senior archivist Rich Aarstad will present the program and debut the site.

Regina McIntyre Early, an Army nurse who served in four hospitals in France during World War I, was an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in northwestern Montana. McIntyre Early was likely the first female veteran of WWI who was an enrolled member of an American Indian tribe in Montana. She'll be honored at a new memorial in Billings.
