Fans of specialty soaps made free from harsh chemicals and animal fats might find some satisfying lather at the newly opened Buff City Soap, which offers Missoula’s first full range of plant-based soap options in the area.
As the first Buff City Soap in Montana, the shop provides a unique experience for customers to play a part in how their soap products are both created and sourced.
“Aside from in restaurants, very few products are made in front of the consumer,” said Stephen Stone. “We make our products in front of our guests, every day. Every product in our shop is made in our Missoula store.”
Buff City Soap hopes to begin offering bath bombs and soap-making parties in addition to their retail section, which ranges from eco-friendly laundry detergent to body butters.
Shop owners Stephen and Beth Stone made the move to Missoula from Texas recently after their son began at the University of Montana.
“The beauty of the land, the unique personality, and the complexity of the city and people won us over,” said Stephen. “When our son was accepted to the university, we knew we wanted to move from Memphis. We had lived our entire lives within a 10-mile circle, and we changed it all for the dream of a better life in Missoula.”
The official grand opening of Buff City Soap was in early September and since then, the shop has strived to integrate itself within the Missoula community.
“Our effort is to make the Missoula store the very best it can be. We want to be an asset to our retail center, a good neighbor to other tenants, and a valued member of the Missoula business community. We have a sincere effort to make a product that benefits our guests and our town.”
