Missoula Woman Tries to Flee During DUI Investigation

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 2:50 a.m. on August 25, 2026, a Missoula Police Department officer responded to a reported trespass incident in the 2900 block of Prada Drive. Dispatch told the officer that 24-year-old Myajia Horst was involved and had left the scene, driving a Nissan pickup with a white trailer, prior to his arrival.  

The officer observed a vehicle matching that description going eastbound on Mullan, and his radar showed the vehicle traveling 51 miles per hour in a posted 45 miles per hour zone. The officer turned around and noted that the vehicle appeared to have accelerated. The officer sped his vehicle up to 63 miles per hour before the vehicle began slowing.  

He observed the vehicle traveling in the shoulder of the road prior to getting into the turning lane and, based on his observations of the vehicle movement, suspected the driver may be impaired. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Horst. Horst appeared to have a dazed expression on her face, and her eyes were watery. Horst took some unnatural pauses, and her speech was slurred. She denied having consumed alcohol that evening.

Failed Tests and Attempted Escape

Horst refused to participate in a horizontal gaze nystagmus test after asking if it was mandatory. She completed a walk-and-turn test, which the officer is trained in scoring and administering, and the officer observed 8 of 8 possible clues. During the test, Horst attempted to flee on foot and was caught by the officer. The officer stated that those actions were “silly,” which Horst agreed with.  

Horst was read a preliminary breath testing advisory and refused to provide a preliminary breath sample. Horst was arrested, but before leaving the scene, she asked if she could grab her bag out of the car, which the officer permitted her to do.  

During an inventory search, detention staff located a crystal substance within a “Zyn” container in the bag. The substance appeared to the officer to be consistent with methamphetamine or MDMA and later tested positive for MDMA on a TruNarc scan.

Horst was read Miranda warnings and stated that she and two others had put items in the bag, and that one of those persons had been “doing acid” at a concert that evening. Horst denied having done meth, but when asked about MDMA, put her head in her hands and declined to answer further questions. 

Horst is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, attempted obstructing a peace officer, speeding, and DUI first offense.
