The Missoula police and fire departments on Wednesday kicked off the city's official budgeting season, seeking funds to cover inflationary costs and to fill their anticipated needs over the new fiscal year.
The number of violent crimes reported in Missoula dropped in 2024 with the exception of sexual intercourse without consent, though that reporting category saw multiple victims report a single individual, according to the Missoula Police Department.
The department said the shooting was part of an ongoing dispute between rival gang members and that immediately prior to the shooting, some of the juveniles in the stolen car had been displaying gang hand-signs.
Citing the cost of housing, the Missoula City Council on Monday approved an amendment to city code allowing police officers and firefighters to live further outside city limits.
