I support Jean Curtiss for county commissioner based on her strong record in conservation and her dedication to clean water and healthy rivers. Jean was a rock-solid leader in the effort to remove Milltown Dam and its toxic sediments and to convert that former Superfund site into a park. She and Governor Bullock broke through an intractable access issue and because of Jean’s perseverance, the new Milltown Park will open this summer and the hazardous I-90 bridge piers will come out.
She pushed for a thorough cleanup at the old Bonner mill and supported successful economic redevelopment there. Likewise, in Frenchtown, she’s been a strong advocate for clean-up, restoration, and economic redevelopment at the defunct paper mill. In the Ninemile Valley, Jean partnered with the U.S. Forest Service and Trout Unlimited to clean up tailings, restore degraded creeks, and improve fish habitat on 13 abandoned mine reclamation projects.
Through Missoula County’s open space bond, Jean’s been instrumental in facilitating voluntary conservation easements and purchases to protect working farms and ranches, open space, timberlands, water quality and critical habitat. In short, she knows how to get things done. She has vision, but more importantly, she’s walked the talk for 17 years. She deserves your vote.
