In preparation for potential inclement weather, Glacier National Park is preparing for a temporary closure of the alpine sections of Going-to-the-Sun Road, the park said in a news release.

Although the weather has been getting warmer, there is still a lot of work to do on one of Montana's most iconic highways before tourist season hits.

Going-to-the-Sun Road will be open to vehicle traffic to Avalanche Campground starting Saturday, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend, Glacier National Park said in a news release Thursday.

Visitors to Glacier National Park in 2025 will again be required to have a vehicle reservation to access the Park’s western areas, but the process will look a little different than in previous years.

More than 600,000 visitors passed through one of Glacier’s entrances during September, nearly 50,000 more than in 2023.

A National Park Service report shows that the over 2.9 million people who visited the park spent over $372 million in the nearby communities.

U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy recently said he parachuted into Glacier National Park as part of his military training in Montana — an activity a national park spokesperson said is not permitted.

Two men in their twenties died after drowning Saturday in two different areas of Glacier National Park, a park spokesperson announced Sunday.

Glacier National Park officials say Adam Fuselier, 32, from Castle Pines, Colorado was found by National Park Service ground searchers at approximately 11:00 a.m. Friday.
