A recent analysis of the Big Hole River indicates that arctic grayling survival hasn’t improved over almost 20 years so some are saying voluntary water conservation doesn’t go far enough. Others say conditions are as good as they could be.

Recent stream research shows that arctic grayling are going to need more protection to survive in the Big Hole River as summers continue to warm and drought dominates.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife has one year to revise its 2020 finding that deemed protection of Arctic grayling not warranted.

George Nickas writes, "Grayling won’t be saved at Red Rock Lakes by trying to change winter. Their only chance is if we’re willing to change ourselves, to stop doing the things that harm the fish and give wild nature a chance. "
