Missoula County hopes to notch a number of conditions over the proposed expansion of a gravel pit in the Bitterroot Valley, including a bond for reclamation and a specific date for when the mine would sunset.

The gravel pit, owned since 2020 by Western Materials, currently covers 80 acres about 5 miles south of Lolo along Old Highway 93.

The Two Rivers manufactured home park includes 59 individual lots adjacent to Travelers Rest, just west of Lolo. The residents are looking to purchase the property in a collective, making it community owned.

If funding pans out and residents buy in, a manufactured home park on prime real estate in Lolo could soon become resident owned.

Several Bitterroot Valley wildfires in recent days have claimed a number of structures and feed for livestock, and some are asking the public for help.

The new designation allows for 16 acres of residential building and 14 acres of commercial while also setting aside 13 acres as open space. It also allows a density of 16 dwelling units per acre.
