Todd Devlin writes, "This governor knew it was against the state constitution not to allow a veto override vote by the legislature. He also knew that he would probably lose in court, but he needed time."
In the last year, residential property taxes jumped nearly $270 million in Montana while commercial property taxes rose $37 million. In comparison, corporate and mining taxes fell by $72 million.

County treasurers are left with the thankless task of sending supplemental property tax bills to hundreds of thousands of property owners across Montana.
Despite losing a ruling by the Montana Supreme Court on the 95 mills property tax collection issue, a Beaverhead County commissioner said his work on the issue is just beginning.
Missoula County commissioners write, "If the assessed value of your home had stayed the same as last year, or if the state had lowered the residential tax rate, most homeowners across the state would actually be paying less in county taxes this year."
