Viewpoint: Montana needs a new US Senator

Montana doesn't need another politician who distorts the truth to get elected. It needs a leader who speaks the truth.

My name is Michael Hummert, and I am running for the United States Senate because Washington has completely lost its grip on reality.

I am a Realist Liberal Democrat. To me, a Realist acknowledges politicians act in their own self-interest—and my interest is the survival of the American citizen. Being Liberal means protecting individual freedom and being open to new ideas. Being a Democrat means believing the government’s only moral purpose is to work for its people.

In the real world of balancing a family checkbook, you cannot spin your way out of a crisis. Yet, Congress spends $2 Trillion it does not have, borrows $38 Trillion against our children’s future, and distracts us with endless political noise to hide the math. This creates inflation, which acts as a silent tax on every worker.

I am running to restore a simple standard of integrity: Honest Money and Honest Government.

That means fighting for a Balanced Budget Amendment—if Congress wants to spend a dollar, it must find a dollar. It means ending corporate bailouts and having a Senator who answers to Montanans, not party bosses in the District of Columbia (D.C.).

We can continue down the path of debt and delusion, or we can choose reality. Let's build a future that is solvent, secure, and free.
