Viewpoint: Why I support Savage for Ward 3 City Council
Laurie Yung
I’m honored to write a letter in support of Jennifer Savage, who is running for City Council in Ward 3. I’ve been one of Savage’s constituents for the last four years and she’s truly been one of the most responsive and effective leaders that I know.
Savage stands for the things that Missoulians care about - addressing the cost of housing, ensuring that life is affordable for all Missoula families, combating climate change, fixing property taxes, and meaningful inclusion of our neighbors who are most marginalized.
But while all of these are important, I support Savage because of her effectiveness and her approach. I want my elected leaders to do more than take a stand on the issues that I care about. I want them to get things done. Savage rolls her sleeves up, builds bridges with everyone involved, comes up with solutions, and actually makes those solutions happen. She does all of this with integrity, transparency, and humility.
I’ve witnessed her leap into action to help a family she’s never met, spend countless hours considering how local government can better serve Missoulians, and spearhead initiatives to help Missoula’s most vulnerable.
She speaks up when the system isn’t working and she comes to the table with tangible, tractable ways to solve the problem. She does all of this with an eye toward fiscal responsibility and the understanding that she’s a public servant, elected to represent everyone in her district.
I’m looking forward to Savage serving another term on the Missoula City Council because I believe that all Missoulians will be better off because of her efforts.
