While unofficial, WinCo Foods plans to remodel, open in old Shopko building
The former Shopko building on South Reserve will serve as the new home of WinCo Foods LLC, several real estate officials in Missoula suggested Tuesday evening.
While the deal couldn't be independently confirmed by the Missoula Current, WinCo Foods has allegedly acquired the site and plans to open a new store at the location after completing a remodel.
According to Sterling CRE, a commercial real estate firm based in Missoula, WinCo is pushing into the Montana market, recently opening facilities in Billings and Helena.
“It now appears that they intend to set up shop right next to Rosauers,” Sterling CRE posted on its Facebook page. “While that's good for Missoula shoppers, Rosauers may not be as excited about the prospect.”
Tom Russell, an agent with Keller Williams Western Montana Realty, posted a similar notice on his Facebook page, simply writing that “WinCo is moving into the old Shopko building.”
WinCo couldn't be immediately reached for comment. The company is privately held with a majority owned by employees.
Shopko announced its plans to close its Missoula location in March.
