Dozens of employers from Missoula and beyond set up shop at the University of Montana on Thursday, most looking for students looking for work. Some sought a job to stay busy after class. Others described that elusive position as a necessity to make ends meet and pay the bills.

A new report from the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at the University of Montana found that almost nine in 10 state residents have visited a Montana state park in the past year, and most go looking for public trail when there.

Along with a clear focus on student success and faculty engagement, the University of Montana is “on the rise” in many ways, President Seth Bodnar and Provost Jon Harbor assured the faculty, staff and students gathered for Friday’s State of the University address.

The University of Montana’s Maureen and Mike Mansfield Library has landed a $20,671 Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant will help fund a project to improve storage for the library’s rare books, historic photographs, archival collections and other materials.

David Brooks will present the University of Montana’s Lucile Speer Memorial Lecture next month in a free event sponsored by Logjam Presents at The Wilma in downtown Missoula. Kicking off the 2018-19 President’s Lecture Series at UM, Brooks’ talk begins at 7:30 p.m.

A drop in summer precipitation and longer dry spells play a significant role in the size and number of large fires across the American West, a new study conducted in part by the University of Montana has found.

Bob Carlson, a 1976 graduate of the University of Montana, will serve as the next president of the American Bar Association, an organization of nearly half-a-million members, the school announced this week.

The University of Montana will hold fall orientation in August for new undergraduate students starting at UM in fall semester 2018. Orientation will run Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 22-24. All new undergraduate students admitted to UM for fall semester are welcome to attend.
