Friends of the Swan Valley write, "The goal: Preserve the lodge, maintain the property (it needs work), keep the charm, don’t damage the landscape more than current activities do, and create a viable business that fits in with the valley and community and doesn’t stress the infrastructure."
On Tuesday afternoon, about 75 Swan Valley residents settled into the Condon Community Center to hear what two potential buyers planned for the controversial Holland Lake Lodge.
The U.S. Forest Service reports a 2024 operating plan for Holland Lake Lodge has not been finalized, but it earlier said a 2017 permit issued to the lodge “remains valid.”
After learning that the Flathead National Forest repaired a sewage lagoon at Holland Lake last summer without admitting the problem, the Missoula County Public Health Department is requiring that the Forest Service go back and do it right.
More Forest Service documents show that the sewage lagoon for the Holland Lake Lodge suffered a failure last summer that the Forest Service may not have reported.
The wastewater treatment system at Holland Lake Lodge may be insufficient for current use, let alone for a possible lodge expansion, and multiple government divisions may have failed to take note.
Holland Lake Lodge dates back to 1925, when the Forest Service issued a permit for a summer resort to include “a main building 40 by 60 feet in size, and a number of cabins for individual use,” according to press reports at the time.
