Snowpack this winter continues to be at an all-time low across several river basins in western Montana, indicating that this year could see water shortages.
Montana’s mountain snowpack is still only 70% of what it should be at the end of February, despite the snowstorms that have recently traversed the state.
While January brought a few snowstorms and a few cold days, it wasn’t enough to improve the winter snowpack, which is still about half of what it should be across Montana.
The wintry mix of rain and snow in recent days will give way to summer-like temperatures this weekend, prompting local officials to begin watching the river gauge.
