Montana Fish, Wildlife & Park has joined surrounding states in further limiting the number of trout people can keep when fishing in streams and rivers in the central and western regions of the state.
After more than five decades of conservation efforts led by tribal, state, federal and non-governmental organizations, Arizona’s state fish, the Apache trout, has been removed from the Endangered Species list.
After an eight-year break, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will resume efforts to shrink the invasive lake trout population in Swan Lake in order to save threatened bull trout.
In the past, brown trout have been the predominant species in the upper stretch of the Clark Fork River, but recent annual trout surveys have shown a population decline, especially near the Warm Springs area.
