Kansas Rep. Brandon Woodard and Montana Rep. Zooey Zephyr pushed back Monday against movement among conservative state legislators to erode non-discrimination protections of LGBTQ+ individuals.

Democratic state Rep. Brianna Titone of Arvada led over 75 bipartisan Colorado elected officials in sending a letter to Montana lawmakers condemning the removal of Rep. Zooey Zephyr and calling for her to be allowed back in the Montana House chamber.

The ACLU of Montana and residents of Montana House District 100 are seeking to challenge the disciplinary action taken against State Representative Zooey Zephyr, D-Missoula, by the Montana House of Representatives.

Minority Leader Kim Abbott, D-Helena, said she spoke with the Speaker so that Zephyr would be allowed to be in the hallway on a bench, which is usually occupied by lobbyists and visitors.

Hours after the Republican majority in the state House on Wednesday banned Missoula Rep. Zooey Zephyr from the floor, Missoula officials defended the ousted lawmaker, as did other Democratic officials.
